A combination of many trips to the landfill to remove junk, numerous tree plantings, trail building, brush clearing, and overall stewardship has created a "haven" of natural beauty. We established 3.5 miles of nature trails which include 15 bridges over creeks and wetlands. Floating docks, a rope swing, paddle boards, and kayaks create a fun environment for swimming and fishing in Redwing and Camp Lakes. Our neighbor, John Morrow (in photo tilling soil for wildflower plot), provided essential assistance in these endeavors until his death in 2021.

Numerous Scout troops have camped at Bluebird Haven, earning merit badges in gun safety, marksmanship, cooking, orienteering, and many other outdoor skills. An annual fish fry is held with over 100 attendees in which Back to the Wild releases various rehabilitated wildlife from their award-winning Center near Castalia, Ohio. A portion of the property is in the Western Reserve Land Conservancy.

Co-owner Saundra Dolbeer, an avid gardener and lover of nature, died in 2017 after a courageous 8-year battle with Alzheimer's. A new mission of Bluebird Haven is to promote research to find a cure for this insidious disease. To this end, Richard has established roadside wildflower plots. Wildflowers signify beauty, hope, and rejuvenation in the search for effective treatments to prevent Alzheimer's. These wildflower plots also provide much-needed food and habitat for pollinator species which are essential for the cycle of life and human food security. You can help the cause by planting wildflowers for community beauty, environmental stewardship, and Alzheimer's awareness (Get Involved | Alzheimer's Association).
